Ashlawn’s Global Citizenship Project is one reason I joined the staff with alacrity in 2013. The school places a premium on children exploring their vast universe through an open-minded, inclusive lens. I feel unbridled joy teaching 2nd graders, because they eagerly try new things and experience countless “a-ha” moments as they develop their critical thinking skills. (Comic relief is also important in my class!) Beyond the walls of Ashlawn, I am always on the pursuit of an adventure. Spring Break 2025 I climbed through Patagonia (in Argentina) and on a prior trip to South America reached an altitude above 16,000 feet (in Ecuador). Before becoming a parent, I climbed the Great Wall of China and biked from Seattle to San Francisco. I return home to my native San Diego as often as possible and am never shy in expressing enthusiastic support of my two alma maters – UCLA and Johns Hopkins University. My motto this year will be, “The expert in anything was once a beginner.”

Welcome to second grade! I am so excited to start my second year on the 2nd grade team. This will be my 9th year at Ashlawn and my 15th year teaching. I live in Arlington with my husband, almost 4 year old son Charlie and our 1 year old daughter Halle. I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to the area about 10 years ago. In my spare time, I love to read, spend time outside, watch Gilmore Girls and hang out with my family. I am an avid Georgia Bulldawg fan and love watching college football in the fall. I also love to spend time at the beach whenever I can. Some of my favorite books are Dragons Love Tacos, The Book with No Pictures, the Harry Potter series, All Are Welcome and many more! We are going to have a wonderful year!

Hi, welcome to 2nd grade! I am so happy to be back at Ashlawn this 2025-2026 school year! This is my eighth year teaching 2nd grade! I love it! I live in D.C. with my husband Ben and our puppy Moose. We will be welcoming a baby girl this November! I was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from The University of Mississippi- Ole Miss. I believe in creating a classroom culture where each student feels welcomed, needed, and LOVED. I know that happy kids learn best and I make it my mission to create a classroom culture that embodies these values. In my free time I love to read, go for walks and bike rides, travel, and spend time with my family and friends! I am looking forward to another wonderful year at Ashlawn!

Welcome to second grade! I am a third year educator and I am SO excited to be joining the Ashlawn family. I recently moved to Arlington from Delaware and am thrilled to be supporting your community as a Special Education Assistant. When I am not at school I enjoy reading, playing Shut The Box, and spending time with my 4 cats. Many weekends I travel to see friends and family, but I never miss a Washington Spirit game (Vamos Spirit!).I am a strong believer in the power of “yet” and love challenging myself and others to grow and learn new things. I believe that everyone has the capacity to blossom with the right support and my favorite saying is “practice makes progress.” I am so excited to grow alongside our community this year!
