The mission of the Ashlawn Elementary School Library Program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information-
- by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
- by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas
- by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.

I have been the librarian at Ashlawn for 11 years and hold a Master of Library Science from the University of Maryland. My goal is to create a welcoming space where all students can see themselves reflected in the books they read while exploring the world around them. I live in Arlington, VA, with my wife and our two sons, who are both APS students and proud Ashlawn alumni.

Hello! I’m Rachel Walsh and this will be my 7th year working in the Ashlawn library. I’m so happy to be part of this amazing Ashlawn community! I grew up in Rhode Island, went to college and law school in Boston, and have been in Arlington for the past 25 years. When I’m not at school, I’m spending time with my husband, walking our dog, visiting our kids at college, traveling, or reading. I can’t wait to welcome you to the library this year!
